Last time we had a sunny Friday we all headed out to our garden at Hohepa in Halswell. We had a bit of garden maintenance to do.
Alex is very keen to do lots of helpful things in the garden.
Some people prefer to supervise!
Aimee-Lee always gets lots of exercise moving around the garden area. She likes to help out with getting tools and water.
What's this? We had a few guesses to see what we thought.
Seed pod? No. It is a chrysalis from an Emperor Gum Moth. Kyle had a good look to see if the caterpillar was still inside.
Somewhere up in this gum tree there might be some munching caterpillars. They are really big and interesting, but we couldn't see any. The moths are huge. We didn't see any of those either.
Joshua checked out the compost heap.
The gardeners worked hard.
What has Matthew got?
A feather. He decided to try to make William laugh by tickling him with the feather.
Matthew thought it was really funny. William was not so impressed.
Aimee-Lee looked to see if there was anything lurking under the bridge.
Rawiri helped to sweep the picnic area.
Then a lovely, friendly hen came to visit us.
Matthew and Alex thought the hen was awesome. They watched her hunting for things to eat under the bushes.
Luckily Mrs Hen didn't mind an audience.
We always have a great time at Hohepa. Sometimes we see the residents and people who attend the day programmes. Everyone is really friendly. We especially like to see our friend Murdoch, who left Allenvale a few years ago. Murdoch is always really pleased to see us.
