We were reading a book about dinosaurs, so decided to visit the Canterbury Museum to see the fossils. We managed to find lots of other interesting things to look at.
William looked really happy at the museum. He goes there with his family sometimes.
Alex was also impressed with the carvings. He told Fay all about them.
What's this?
William found the sign telling us about the exhibition.
Look at the incredible letterboxes!
Matthew loved the letterboxes.
The artworks were made of metal.
Look - hens!
Alex liked this dog made from layers of corrugated iron.
Matthew discovered lots of animal sculptures. He loves animals.
What's in here?
There was even a house made of corrugated iron.
We went upstairs and found a fantastic display of photos featuring spiders. There were some real spiders too. Kyle discovered that you could use this microscope to look at tiny spiders. We were glad Lulu wasn't there because she is really scared of spiders!!!!
Then we found the fossils. We looked at the Allosaurus. We looked at the sharp teeth and decided that Allosaurus must be a carnivore. The sharp teeth are good for eating meat.
Triceratops has teeth for grinding up plants. It is a herbivore. Herbivores eat plants. Herbivores need to protect themselves from hungry carnivores like Allosaurus. Can you see how this Triceratops has sharp horns and a big shield of bone to protect its neck?
We walked through to the bird hall. Matthew found the Royal Albatross.
Rawiri listened to all of the bird calls.
Alex inspected the penguin display.
We noticed that there were birds flying overhead.
Next time we visit the museum we will have to bring $2 each and go into the Discovery Centre. There was lots more to see at the museum. Kyle wanted to check out the Asian Hall. We didn't go into the Antarctic display or have a good look around the old street. Maybe next time.
