This year we are responsible for the Allenvale garden at Hohepa Farm. We will be visiting each Friday when the weather is suitable. We visited last week and made a plan for the next few weeks. This week our goal was to weed the garden because lots of overgrown veges and weeds had taken over in the holidays.
Everyone contributed to the jobs required this week.
Joshua could pull out weeds and put them in the weed buckets.
Alex was a very enthusiastic gardener.
Kyle worked out that if he sat down on the ground he could pull out the messy weeds from around the edge of our garden bed.
Rawiri inspected the compost piles. Can you see the pumpkin plant growing in the compost?
Alex thought pulling weeds out was great fun.
We had to weed carefully around the lovely rosemary bush. It smells amazing!
Alex helped Kyle to pick up the weed bucket.
Then Kyle carried it to the compost pile.
Kyle is such a hard worker.
William helped to put some weeds onto the compost pile too.
Matthew picked up some weeds.
He threw the weeds onto the compost pile.
After we had finished gardening we had some of the delicious lemon slice that most of the class helped to make.
Next week we need to dig over our garden bed. There are still some wee oxalis bulbs underneath the surface, and some roots that we need to dig out. It would be good to add some compost too.
Thanks to everyone in the class for helping to get our garden looking good again. Have a fantastic weekend!
