Margaret Mahy Playground

On Monday we decided to visit the Margaret Mahy Family Playground. We all like a good playground, and were hoping this one would be amazing.

Wow! We were not disappointed.

We climbed.

We relaxed.

We explored.

Yes, Kyle was Spiderman!
Joshua zipped and zapped all over the playground.

Rawiri scaled his own Mount Everest, and took in the view from the top.

Fay had a go on the tunnel slide.

Josh went wheeeee!

Aimee-Lee twirled and spun.

William looked for a comfy spot. The surface is lovely and squishy.

Matthew found his own way down.

He ducked under the huge climbing nets.

Rawiri tested out a water activity. He worked out how to make it go. Look at that lovely sandpit!

Will swung and listened to his music.

Then Joshua found the flying fox.

Where was Alex? Somehow I missed taking his photo because he was so busy looking around.

What a brilliant playground. Everyone found things they could do, and things that challenged them. We are excited about visiting again.

If you are planning to visit, there are a few things to note:
  • There is almost no shade currently, so sun protection is a must.
  • The playground is not fenced. The river is on one side, and roads on two others. If your child is a runner, this is not the playground for you.
  • Supervising several children on your own could be tricky! It is a big area and you can't see the whole space at once.
  • If your young person finds water play irresistible, bring some spare clothes because they could get very wet.
